Kuky se vrací http://chunnel.tv/film-design/1663/kuky-se-vrac/

“KOOKY´S RETURN (Kuky se vrací) is a combined puppet and live action feature based on a
child’s fantasy. A seven year old boy whose teddy bear Kooky has been
thrown away wonders what his toy is up to in the big world out there, imagining
[that] Kooky [is trying] to find his way back home.
”

When I first saw the trailer, I instantly though fraggle rock meets where the wild things are. I was also reminded of the princess bride for some reason. I guess it might have been the whole grandpa telling a story to the little boy scenario. I don't understand stand what they're saying but It looks pretty good! It was written and directed by Oscar-winning Czech director Jan Svěrák.

BIG LOVE: A Juniper Creek Christmas http://chunnel.tv/film-design/1629/big-love-a-juniper-creek-christmas/

Big Love from DIGITALKITCHEN on Vimeo.

Just in the nick of time, our polygamist friends over at Juniper Creek are dropping a long over due Christmas. I wonder if HBO footed the bill for recording costs, or all the sister-wives just pooled their funds together for the project.

"From our family to yours. How do we reward 5 million loyal fans of a hit show going into its 4th season? By making them a fundamentalist polygamist compound family holiday album! Eight classic Christmas songs re-written, composed, and recorded. We also produced a music video as a companion piece to the album: an earnestly awkward holiday celebration put on by the people of Juniper Creek. Click here to listen to the tracks and download the album."

Coco Chanel's Shanghai Fantasy by Karl Lagerfeld http://chunnel.tv/film-design/1619/coco-chanels-shanghai-fantasy-by-karl-lagerfeld/ <p>Everyone is so multimedia these days, even Karl Lagerfeld. The designer recently directed a film where he imagines what Coco Chanel's trip to Shanghai would have been like. The thing is, that she actually only made the trip to China in her dreams, and not in real life. The ego-maniacal designer done good, the ghost of his "boss of bosses" is probably looking down from heaven, giving her nod of approval. <br /> <br /> via a href="http://fashionurbia.com/post/279501372/coco-chanels-shanghai-dream">Fashionurbia</a></p> diggs Mon, 14 Dec 2009 02:43:01 +0100 The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil http://chunnel.tv/film-design/1615/the-rolling-stones-sympathy-for-the-devil/ <p>Ain't nothin' like watching one of the greatest songs ever recorded. The 1968 "Sympathy For The Devil" film by acclaimed director French Jean-Luc Godard is nothing shy of awesome. What initially started out as a film about abortion turned out to be one of the holy grails of rock-n-roll (unlike the real world, the rock world has more than one holy grail). <br /> <br /> "Before the Rolling Stones became involved, Jean-Luc Godard’s film, intended by the director to be called One + One, started out initially as a film about abortion. But as part of the bid to lure the controversial director Jean-Luc Godard across to the UK to apply his unique perspective on the highly charged political events and issues of the day, the deal was sweetened by allowing him access to film the Stones during the ‘Beggar’s Banquet’ recording sessions of the song Sympathy For The Devil.<br /> <br /> Godard arrived in the UK then at a time of heightened worldwide political tensions, with people becoming increasingly aware of the cost of the Vietnam War, and with students rioting on the streets of Paris. Godard himself was at his most politicised, with recent films such as La Chinoise (1967) and most explosively Weekend (1967), increasingly distancing himself from traditional filmmaking, which he had come to regard as cultural imperialism. His ideas for One + One rapidly changed and evolved, it’s bipartite structure playing out as a dialectic between creation (the recording of a song by the Rolling Stones) and destruction (the political climate that was giving rise to uprising and resistance, most notably through the Black Power movement)."<br /> <br /> via <a href="http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=61478">DVD Times</a></p> diggs Fri, 11 Dec 2009 12:29:40 +0100 Humunculus http://chunnel.tv/film-design/1610/humunculus/

This is the best movie ever made starring a bunch of cute little 3D mold spores.

Humble is proud to present, Humunculus, the first of an annual series of experimental films by our in-house directing collaborative, Hydra. Conceived of and directed by Sam Stephens, Homunculus is a dark and twisted fable of spontaneous generation and untrammeled id. Taking its title from the Latin word for "Little Human", the piece is an associative mashup between the two concepts behind the word: The first being middle-age alchemical beliefs that "little men" could be spontaneous generated from dead or decaying matter. The second being Carl Jung's usage as a personification of pure id. These ideas, combined with our love of Dutch still life's "beautiful decay," sowed the seeds for this unique little monster of a film.

The Hydra team assembled an entire still-life spread; fruits, cheeses, flowers, fish, and an uncooked pheasant. They then sealed it off in a 6x6 foot plexiglass box. 3 DSLrs, set at varying angles, were set to shoot a frame every 5 minutes for 11 days. Meanwhile, co-director Chris Mauch began to design a series of "little men," some cute and cuddly, some not so much. In Maya, Chris and our team of volunteer animators and modelers began to build and rig the creatures.

Over the course of 4 months, in between jobs and on weekends, Sam, Chris, and the team pieced together the sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing madcap narrative --a mixture of Tex Avery cartoons and H.R. Giger inspired body horror.

True to its subject, and to the surprise of its producers, what was to be a small 30 second blip organically grew into an entire HD short film. With the completion of the 12-tone score by Koven Smith and the surround sound mix by Joe Muiccio, we're pleased to premiere our furry little labor of love. Please enjoy...hopefully on an empty-ish stomach.

MTV's Jersey Shore http://chunnel.tv/film-design/1601/mtvs-jersey-shore/

Growing up in Jersey, I can vividly remember people just like these, cruising up and down the strip in their IROC-Z's all summer long. Since "The Real World" lost steam about 5 seasons ago, the higher-ups at MTV have been scrambling to find another show with the same potential for longevity. Well, I think they finally stumbled upon their new hit with "MTV's Jersey Shore", this show's gonna be everyone's new guilty pleasure.
