Girls vs. Boys: Iran's Intergenerational Conflict
by voyvak, June.28.2009
By now you've seen a lot of pixelated footage of courageous street protests and the response of the thugocracy. You might be asking yourself how it all started. In a new Chunnel exclusive by Elliot Hen-Tov, we break Iran down to the bone bristle. Pairing intellectual analysis with brilliant photography by Newsha Tavakolian, we can see the conflict in stark black and white terms.
Elliot Hen-Tov is a doctoral candidate specializing on contemporary Iranian and Turkish affairs at Princeton University's Department of Near Eastern Studies. Mr. Hen-Tov's publications have appeared in the Washington Quarterly, Washington Times and the Middle Eastern Review of International Affairs. He has been a featured speaker on Iranian affairs at events sponsored by the Stimson Center, U.S. Institute of Peace, Council on Foreign Relations and New York University's Center for Global Affairs.
Newsha Tavkolian has been working as a photographer in Iran since she was 16. She has covered Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia Yemen and Pakistan. Her work has been featured in Time, Newsweek, Stern, New York Times and Le Figaro.
