Singing Highways

Recently Honda went to work cutting thousands of grooves in the highway just outside Lancaster, California. Why? so that if you drive over them at just the right speed the vibrations from your car's tires will produce something resembling Rossini's "William Tell Overture". For what it's worth, supposedly the grooves are tuned specifically to the tires and wheelbase of the Honda Civic.

Very cool project, although it did enrage local residents, who managed to get the whole thing repaved. Both Japan and Korea have had roads like this in place for some time, intended to keep drivers awake (and slightly irritated I would imagine).
